The Colosseum

(50 Ratings)
Architectural legacy
There is only one. Despite being just a shell of its former grandeur, the Roman Colosseum still has the power to take you back to a time when it held the best attractions in Rome, the once capital of the western world.

Sunday Fun-day at the Colosseum

Breathtaking, majestic and awe-inspiring. Pictures don't do it justice. Especially fun on Sundays when all surrounding streets and boulevards are closed to traffic and open to pedestrians. Be sure to cool off with a drink at the Coming Out bar adjacent to the Colosseum.

Roman ruins in center city

Near the Coliseum and well worth walking through are the ruins of Forum Romanum. You will find many temples, basilicas and Arches. Its like stepping back in time. Its a fairly large ruin. There does not appear to be a dedicated web site that I can find but many sites such as loneley planet and trip advisor have many reviews and information regarding the ruins. Closest Metro is Colesseo. Piece of advice watch your belongings on the subways and your pockets. Watch for children holding newspapers opened directly in front of you. Sign you are about to be robbed.
